Birmingham AI: where Birmingham figures out AI together
Birmingham AI is a nonprofit community accelerating AI adoption across Birmingham, Alabama. Every month it draws hundreds of people — most of them business people, not engineers — to a free general meetup and a slate of volunteer-led industry breakouts.
How the community works
The rhythm is simple. Each month there’s a general meetup — the big-tent session, open to anyone from the AI-curious to seasoned practitioners, typically held at Innovation Depot downtown. Around it run industry breakouts: smaller, volunteer-led sessions where people in the same line of work — marketing, engineering, healthcare, construction, finance, project management, and more — compare notes on what AI is actually doing in their field. On the order of 800 people take part in a given month.
Everything is free, and no experience is required — most attendees are non-technical business people who want to stay current without wading through hype. Sessions are practical by design: what someone tried, what worked, what didn’t, and what they’d do differently.
The community’s home is birminghamai.org, and sessions are published on Eventbrite. We mirror the full schedule on our sessions page, updated nightly.
How to get started
Pick one session and show up — that’s genuinely the whole onboarding. The general meetup is the natural first stop if you’re new; an industry breakout is better if you’d rather hear from people who share your specific problems. Registration is free on Eventbrite, and the upcoming schedule always shows what’s next.
Sparkhound sponsors Birmingham AI and shows up every month — we’re a Birmingham technology consultancy, and this community is where a lot of the region’s honest AI conversation happens. If you want a private read on where your own company stands before (or after) a session, the free AI Readiness Assessment takes about ten minutes, and our AI readiness guide explains the six dimensions it measures.
